UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women's hockey team dropped a 1-0 decision to the Lindenwood Lions Friday afternoon in a College Hockey America (CHA) contest inside the Pegula Ice Arena.
"I just told our team, I just thought they played really, really hard, which we appreciate," head coach Jeff Kampersal said. "We were on the Lindenwood face-offs, which we worked on all week. But, we didn't execute, we lack vision and we didn't work smart. That kills us, we had 43 shots on goal, and we have to put one of those in. We had plenty of backdoor tap-ins that we couldn't lift the puck. It is really frustrating to lose that game."
Lindenwood (10-18-1, 8-11-0 CHA) tallied the lone goal of the game at 10:50 into the first period on a goal from Britannia Gillanders.
Despite recording at least 10 shots in each period, the Nittany Lions were unable to find the back of the net. Penn State (8-14-11, 5-7-7 CHA) outshot Lindenwood, 20-4, during the third period.
Freshman Chantal Burke (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) took over for senior Hannah Ehresmann (Minnetonka, Minn.) in net prior to the start of the second period. Ehresmann made four saves over the first 20 minutes of action, while Burke recorded seven saves during the final two periods of play. In net for Lindenwood, Jolene deBruyn posted 43 saves.
The two teams close out the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m. inside the Pegula Ice Arena.
NOTES: The all-time series between the two teams is tied at 11-11-3…Penn State outshot Lindenwood, 43-12…Penn State went 0-for-3 on the power play, while Lindenwood went 0-for-2…Burke made her third appearance as a Nittany Lion.
