UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The 18th-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions look to improve to 3-0 in Big Ten Conference action as they travel to Ohio State for a noontime affair on Saturday afternoon inside Ohio Stadium. The game will be streaming live on BTN-Plus.
ABOUT THE MATCHUP
- This marks the 26th meeting all-time dating back to 1997 with Penn State holding the 19-6 advantage.
- The two programs have met at least once each season dating back to 2000 with multiple meetings from 2007-2010 and again in 2015.
- Dating back to the teams' second meeting in 2008 in the ALC Tournament, Penn State has an 11-2 record against the Buckeyes including eight-straight victories from 2008 through 2013.
- Senior Katie O'Donnell has registered nine career goals against Ohio State while adding one assists for 10 points in four career games registering multi-points in each contest with three multi-goal games against the Buckeyes.
- Junior Madison Carter has just two career games against the Buckeyes, but has scored eight goals with one assists for nine points including a five goal and six point outburst in last season's 16-12 victory.
SCOUTING THE BUCKEYES
- Ohio State finished just 6-11 last season including a 0-6 mark in conference play but are 5-5 so far this year with a 1-1 record in Big Ten games after defeating Rutgers last Friday. The Buckeyes have won two straight games and three of their last four entering Saturday's matchup.
- Ohio State's five losses this season have come by a combined 11 goals including four losses by just six goals. The Buckeyes most lopsided game was a 17-12 setback against Cincinnati at the end of February.
- The Buckeyes are led on offense by Baley Parrott with 28 goals and 31 points while McKayla Conti has added 22 goals for OSU. Molly Wood, Sara Dickinson and Liza Hernandez have each added 17, 15 and 13 goals, respectively.
- Jill Rizzo returns for her sophomore season between the pipes and leads the Big Ten with a .531 save percentage while her 10.91 goals against average ranks fourth in the Big Ten. Rizzo has started all 10 games this season posting a 4-5 record after going 6-11 last season with a .465 save percentage and a 12.59 goals against average.

- Last Thursday senior Katie O'Donnell fired home the golden goal just 27 seconds into overtime to lift Penn State past Johns Hopkins, 13-12.
- O'Donnell's 31 goals are fourth in the Big Ten and she has now scored at least one goal in 34 straight games dating back to 2016. O'Donnell's 173 goals rank fourth all-time at Penn State.
- O'Donnell also moved into a tie with Mary Ann Foley '90 for 15th on the Penn State all-time scoring list with 194 points and is just six shy of becoming the 14th member of the 200-point club.
ZERO TO 100
- In her eighth season with the Nittany Lions, head coach Missy Doherty recorded her 100th victory at Penn State last Thursday with an overtime victory against Johns Hopkins.
- Doherty has led the Nittany Lions to six-straight NCAA Tournaments during her previous seven years including back-to-back NCAA Final Fours and has posted a 100-50 overall record at Penn State.
CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR
- After a tough loss to Princeton last Monday, Penn State has now matched its number of losses from the entire 2017 season with four including three losses by a single-goal.
- The Nittany Lions have lost each of their four games by a total of five goals. Penn State is just 2-4 in games decided by two goals or less this season.
EXTRA TIME
- Last Thursday's 13-12 overtime win against Johns Hopkins marked the second time already this season that Penn State has taken a game into overtime after playing in zero overtime games in 2017. The Nittany Lions are 1-1 in such games this season after going 2-0 in overtime games in 2016.
- Penn State is 14-14 all-time in overtime games in the history of the program dating back to 1965.
BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD
- With significant changes coming on draw controls to begin the 2018 season, it took a while for junior Madison Carter to hit her stride. However, Carter is back to her dominating ways on the draw leading the Big Ten with 75 draws and a 6.82 per game average.
- Carter was dominate last Monday during a loss to Princeton as the junior registered a career-high 15 draw controls including 12 in the first half where Penn State held the commanding 13-1 advantage on draws over the opening 30 minutes.
SCORING OFFENSE
- Penn State ranks second in the Big Ten and eighth in the nation averaging 15.55 goals per game while its 171 goals this season lead the Big Ten and rank third in the nation.
- The Nittany Lions also lead the Big Ten in shot percentage as 46.3 percent of their shots find the back of the cage, a mark that ranks 16th nationally.
- PSU is also second in the Big Ten and third in the nation in free-position percentage converting 57-of-102 chances (55.9 percent). Penn State's 102 free-position chances and 57 free-position goals also lead the nation.
HOW LOWE CAN YOU GO
- Freshman goaltender Lucy Lowe was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week last week earning the first Freshman of the Week honor for Penn State since Madison Carter on April 26, 2016.
- Lowe has started six straight games and secured two victories two weeks ago while registering an 8.41 goals against average and a .607 save percentage for the week to earn Freshman of the Week honors.
- Lowe's .475 save percentage ranks second in the Big Ten and tied for 28th in the nation.
OFFENSIVE OUTBURST
- Sophomore Maria Auth has collected 20 goals in her last five games and was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week last week.
- Auth leads the team with 40 points to rank third in the Big Ten while her 34 goals are third in the Big Ten and tied for 18th in the nation. Auth has also scored at least one goal in 14 straight games with multiple goals in all, but one of those contests.
- Junior Madison Carter is also riding a 14-game goal streak while her 35 goals are second in the Big Ten and rank tied for 14th in the nation. With a pair of goals last Thursday, Carter moved into a tie for seventh on the Penn State all-time goal list with 153 for her career. Carter is just three goals shy of leaping into the top-5.
CHANGE OF SCENERY
- Just a few weeks into the 2018 season junior Kelly Daggett moved from attack to defense in order to help out a young defensive unit and she has thrived in her new role.\
- The junior currently leads the team with 23 groundballs and 22 caused turnovers on the year.
- Daggett's 22 caused turnovers and 2.00 average per game both lead the Big Ten and tied for 15th and 24th in the nation, respectively
- Against Hopkins last Thursday, Daggett forced a turnover and raced toward the goal firing home her first goal of the 2018 season. In 2017, Daggett finished tied for seventh on the team in goal scoring with 15 goals and only had four caused turnovers the entire season.
