UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State track & field program qualified 37 individuals for the NCAA Track & Field East Preliminary Round. The 2018 NCAA Track & Field East Preliminary Round takes place at the USF Track & Field Stadium on the campus of the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida, May 24-26.

On the men's side, 17 Nittany Lions qualified in 11 individual events, and both 4x100-meter relays and 4x400-meter relays qualified.

Four Penn State men qualified for multiple events, as David Lucas (Lititz, Pa.) advanced in the discus throw and the hammer throw, Malik Moffett (Erie, Pa.) will compete in the 200-meter dash and long jump, Xavier Smith (Douglassville, Pa.) will run in the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash, and Jon Yohman (New Wilmington, Pa.) will compete in the discus throw and shot put.

For the Penn State women, 12 Nittany Lions qualified in nine individual events, and the 4x100-meter relay qualified.

Maddie Holmberg (Greensburg, Pa.) advanced to the heptathlon at the 2018 NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon, June 6-9, after finishing in the top-24 of the event. For combined events (heptathlon and decathlon), the top-24 declared student-athletes in each event based on their position on the national descending-order list are accepted directly into the NCAA Championships. Holmberg is fifth in the heptathlon standings with her score of 5,976 points.

The top-12 athletes and relays per regional (east and west) will advance to the 2018 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which are slated for June 6-9 in Eugene, Oregon.
