UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Midfielder/forward Laura Freigang (Oppenheim, Germany) has signed a professional contract with 1. FFC Frankfurt in the Frauen-Bundesliga and will forgo her final two years of collegiate eligibility.
"As a program, we have always supported our student-athletes goals and aspirations of playing at the professional and international levels," head coach Erica Dambach said. "We support Laura's desire to play professionally in her native Germany and chase her ultimate dream of representing her country at the World Cup, Olympics and other top competitions."
In her two seasons as a Nittany Lion, Freigang played in 37 matches, tallied 16 starts, and recorded 23 points on 11 goals and one assist.
During her sophomore season with the Nittany Lions in 2017, Freigang played in 22 matches, made 14 starts, scored nine goals, and recorded one assist. On the year, she scored four game-winning goals, which included three game-winners in overtime. Freigang also recorded the 21st hat trick in program history in Penn State's 7-0 victory over Stony Brook in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Nov. 10, 2017.
Her honors as a Nittany Lion include: Big Ten All-Tournament Team (2017), Offensive Player of the Big Ten Tournament (2017), two-time TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week honoree (11/7/17 & 11/14/17), All-Big Ten Freshman Team (2016), Big Ten Freshman of the Week (8/23/16), and Academic All-Big Ten (2017).
