UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State rising sophomore Gabe Castano (Allentown, Pa,) will begin competition in the Mexican National Swimming Championships in Veracruz Saturday.
Castano, a native of Monterrey, Mexico, is slated to compete in the men's 50- and 100-meter freestyle events.
He made a big impact at Penn State as a freshman this past season, as he ranks as the fourth-fastest performer in school history in the 50-yard freestyle (19.75 seconds) and scored at the Big Ten Championships in the 50 and 100 freestyles, leading the team in both events for the year.
Joining Castano in competition this week are a dozen Nittany Lions in the TYR Pro Series in Columbus on the campus of Ohio State.
