UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State Women's Lacrosse team has announced its 2019 schedule. The slate includes nine home games. A challenging schedule features six games against 2018 NCAA Tournament teams, including the defending national champions.
"We love playing the best teams in the country, and we are excited for the 2019 season to begin," said Head Coach Missy Doherty. "Our early season schedule, combined with our tough Big Ten slate, provides us ample opportunities to play against the best teams in the nation."
The Nittany Lions will open their home schedule on Saturday, February 2 with a 3 p.m. scrimmage against Drexel. The Dragons finished sixth in the CAA last season.
The first official home game in Panzer Stadium will be against Towson on Saturday, February 9 for a 2 p.m. start. The Tigers went 16-5 last year, reaching the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Towson was ranked No. 9 in the final IWLCA Poll.
On Saturday, February 16, the Nittany Lions welcome Lehigh for a 1 p.m. contest. The Mountain Hawks finished 13-6 overall in 2018. Penn State earned a 14-13 win last season.
Penn State opens its road slate on Wednesday, February 20 at Duquesne for a 3 p.m. matchup. The Dukes were 4-12 last season. The Nittany Lions claimed a 19-8 victory last year.
The Nittany Lions visit Cornell on Saturday, February 23 for a 1 p.m. battle. The Big Red went 7-8 last year. Penn State earned a 16-11 win in last year's matchup.
Penn State continues its road schedule at Princeton on Wednesday, February 27 at 5 p.m. The Tigers reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament, concluding the year with a 13-6 record. The Ivy League Champions were ranked No. 10 in the final IWLCA Poll.
The Nittany Lions finish their road stretch at Loyola at 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 2. The Greyhounds won the Patriot League regular season title after going 9-0 in conference play. Loyola advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, going 16-5 overall and finishing No. 11 in the IWLCA Poll. Loyola returns three All-Americans in 2019.
Penn State returns to Panzer Stadium to welcome the defending national champions, James Madison, on Wednesday, March 6 for a 2 p.m. matchup. The Dukes went 22-1 last year, including 6-0 in the CAA to win the regular season and tournament titles.
The Nittany Lions host Albany on Saturday, March 9 for a 1 p.m. game. The Great Danes went 9-9 overall in 2018 and reached the America East Championship game. They went 6-1 in conference play. The blue and white picked up a 17-7 win in last year's contest at Albany.
Penn State travels to Michigan for its Big Ten opener on Saturday, March 16 at 12 p.m. The Wolverines were fifth in the Big Ten last season, going 7-10 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
Big Ten play continues on Thursday, March 21 when the Nittany Lion meet Maryland for a 4 p.m. contest at Panzer Stadium. The Terrapins reached the NCAA Semifinals last year and ranked No. 3 in the final IWLCA Poll. Maryland went 20-2 overall, including 6-0 in Big Ten play, winning the Big Ten regular season and tournament titles. Maryland returns two All-Americans from the 2018 squad.
Penn State visits Northwestern on Thursday, March 28 for a 7 p.m. game. Northwestern reached the NCAA Quarterfinals after going 15-6 overall and 5-1 in the Big Ten. The Wildcats ranked No. 8 in the IWLCA Poll.
The Nittany Lions take on Ohio State at home on Thursday, April 4 in a 7 p.m. contest. The Buckeyes were 5-10 overall and 1-5 in the Big Ten last year. Penn State earned an 18-10 win in Columbus in 2018.
The home stretch continues on Sunday, April 7 when Penn State hosts Virginia at 1 p.m. The Cavaliers advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, going 10-10 overall and 4-3 in the ACC. Virginia ranked No. 15 in the IL Poll. The Nittany Lions won 22-13 last year in Charlottesville.
Another NCAA Tournament team visits Happy Valley on Wednesday, April 17 when Penn State welcomes Stony Brook for a 4 p.m. matchup. The Seawolves went 20-1 last season, including 7-0 in conference on their way to an America East regular season and tournament title. Stony Brook made it to the NCAA Quarterfinals and ranked No. 5 in the IWLCA Poll. Stony Brook returns three All-Americans from 2018.
The Nittany Lions travel to Johns Hopkins on Saturday, April 20 for a 1 p.m. game. Johns Hopkins reached the NCAA Tournament first round and ranked No. 21 in the IWLCA Poll after going 10-9 overall, including 3-3 in the Big Ten. The Nittany Lions earned a 13-12 overtime win last season.
The regular season concludes on Saturday, April 27 when the blue and white hosts Rutgers for an 11 a.m. matchup. The Scarlet Knights went 7-10 overall and 1-5 in the Big Ten last year. Penn State claimed an 18-13 victory last season in Piscataway.
The Big Ten Tournament, hosted by Johns Hopkins, starts on Thursday, May 2. The championship game will be played on May 4.

Penn State returns two All-Americans, senior attacker Madison Carter and senior midfielder Kayla Brisolari. Carter led the Nittany Lions with 62 goals in 2018, while Brisolari ranked second on the team with 76 draw controls and 24 caused turnovers.
