Penn State Men’s Swimming and Diving Opens Tennessee Invitational

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Penn State men's swimming and diving team opened the Tennessee Invitational with four swimmers posting NCAA B-cut times and a pair of top-three finishes Thursday in the Jones Aquatic Center.
 
The Nittany Lions finished the day with 180 points, ranking fifth trailing No 12. Tennessee (374), Penn (199), Duke (193), and Denver (154). Carson-Newman followed Penn State with 59 points.
 
Leading for the Lions were Hayden Harlow, who became the fifth-fastest performer in Penn State history in the 200 IM with an NCAA B-cut time of 1:46.48, and diver Hector Garcia Boissier with a finals score of 361.65 in the 1-meter. Both performances were good for third-place finishes.

Michael Daly continued to have success in his freshman campaign, placing seventh in the 500 free out of 44 swimmers in a personal best 4:25.94, while sophomore Nathan Schiffman missed out on the A-final but swam the third-fastest time of the night to post an NCAA B-cut time of 4:21.81 and place ninth overall.
 
Gabe Castano reached the A-final in the 50 freestyle with a season-best and B-cut preliminary time of 20.03 seconds and placed eighth in the final in 20.76, and Will Roberson swam a B-cut and season-best of 20.10 seconds in the B-final to place 10th. Matthew DiNunzio also reached the B-final and placed 15th in 20.56 seconds.
 
Additionally, Jack Crow followed Garcia Boissier on the 1-meter board in ninth place (298.75).

Penn State continues with day two of the Tennessee Invitational Friday morning starting with preliminaries at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
