Women’s Lacrosse Hosts Drexel For Saturday Scrimmage

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State Women's Lacrosse team is set to open Panzer Stadium for the Spring on Saturday as it hosts Drexel for a 3 p.m. scrimmage.  The Nittany Lions and the Dragons are set for a scrimmage before both teams open the regular season next weekend.  The scrimmage is free to the public and will follow the men's lacrosse game against Villanova.

The Nittany Lions are ranked No. 12 in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Preseason Poll and No. 9 in the Inside Lacrosse Preseason Poll.

Penn State, led by Head Coach Missy Doherty, begins the 2019 campaign seeking its eighth straight NCAA Tournament appearance.  The blue and white finished 10-10 last season, including wins over No. 17 Cornell, No. 22 Johns Hopkins, No. 6 Virginia and No. 7 Northwestern.

The Nittany Lions had three players selected as Big Ten Players To Watch earlier this week.  Seniors Kayla Brisolari and Madison Carter added to their preseason accolades, while junior Maria Auth was also recognized by the Big Ten.

Brisolari and Carter were both selected Preseason All-America by Inside Lacrosse after earning Postseason All-America honors last year.

Penn State opens the regular season on Saturday, February 9 against No. 11 Towson, the first of nine matchups against teams ranked in the IWLCA Preseason Poll.  The Towson matchup is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. in Panzer Stadium.
