UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – After leading the No. 8 Penn State women's lacrosse team to a 14-12 win at Cornell on Saturday, senior attacker Madison Carter was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Carter led the Nittany Lions with seven points, including a career high-tying six goals. It marked the sixth time Carter has scored six goals in a game and her 20th career game with five or more points. She also tied a season-high with five draw controls.
The senior scored on back-to-back PSU goals twice in the first half. Her first goal came with 27:43 left in the first half, on an assist by Sophia Triandafils. Carter scored against 38 seconds later on a feed by Maria Auth.
Carter clinched a hat trick with 10:47 to go in the first half, this time on an assist by Sydney Wolfington. Carter added a free-position goal 28 seconds later.
The Maryland native opened the second half scoring with a goal just 24 seconds into the half, off an assist by Kayla Brisolari. Her final goal came with 27:40 left in the game, on another assist by Triandafils.
Carter recorded her own assist on a goal by Quinn Nicolai with 26:22 to go in the contest.
With seven points on the day, Carter now has 210 for her career, good for ninth all-time at PSU. During the Cornell game, she passed Michelle DeJuliis (1994-97) and Colleen O'Hara (2000-03) on the career list. She sits just one point behind current volunteer coach Steph Lazo (2014-17) for eighth place.
Carter currently ranks 10th in the nation among active players in career points. She is fourth among active players in career goals (190).
This season, Carter is eighth in the Big Ten with 10 goals and fifth with 3.3 goals per game. She leads the Big Ten, and ranks eighth in the nation, with 8.67 shots per contest. She averages 6.0 shots on goal per game.
The Nittany Lions, led by Head Coach Missy Doherty, is 3-0 and ranked No. 8 in the IWLCA Poll heading into Wednesday's matchup at No. 14 Princeton. The game will begin at 5 p.m. on ESPN+.
