Nittany Lions Compete At Yellow Jacket Invitational

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Penn State track & field programs sent seven student-athletes to compete in the Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by Georgia Tech on Saturday.  All seven student-athletes competed in the javelin throw events in the first outdoor event of the 2019 season.  

In the women's javelin throw, Madison Smith placed second with a best throw of 152 feet,11 inches (46.61m) to lead the Nittany Lions. 

Finishing fifth in the women's javelin throw was Stephanie Sievers.  Sievers took home her top-five finish with a top throw of 148-6 (45.27m).  Just behind Sievers was her teammate Rosemary Campbell.  Campbell finished sixth with a best throw of 137-4 (41.85m). 

Ryann Brundage was the final Nittany Lion to compete in the women's javelin.  Brundage finished 14th with her best throw of 112-8 (34.34M).

Michael Biddle placed second in the men's javelin throw for Penn State.  Biddle's top throw registered a distance of 207 feet, 2 inches (63.14m).

Finishing two spots behind Biddle was Mark Porter.  Porter's best throw traveled 203-4 (61.97m) to give Porter a fourth-place finish in the men's javelin.

Also finishing in the top ten of the men's javelin throw was Matt Nawrocki. Nawrocki rounded out the Nittany Lions competing at Georgia Tech, placing eighth with a best throw of 192-6 (58.67m). 

"We wanted to take advantage of the warm weather and early opportunity to compete and I think we accomplished that.  Looking forward to turning around this next week to make technical changes and compete again at Arizona State." Throwing coach Lucais MacKay said.

The Nittany Lions compete in their first team meet next week at the Sun Devil Invitational in Tempe, Arizona.
