CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Strong rains forced the first day of the Virginia Challenge to be shortened due the weather. The Nittany Lions are set to complete all remaining events during the second day of competition on Saturday.

A personal-best for freshman Carena Nottoli of 13-2.25 (4.02m) gave her a first place finish in the women's pole vault. Nottoli improved her career-best by .12m. Nottoli's previous personal-best in outdoor competition was set at the LSU Battle on the Bayou where she cleared 3.90m.
Freshman Justin Ofotan had another strong performance in the men's 100-meter race. Ofotan clocked a time of 10.50 which ties him for 10th in the Big Ten in the men's 100-meter.
The Nittany Lions turned in a pair of top-10 finishes in the women's 100-meter final. Brooke-Lynn Williams finished seventh, running 11.97. Kiara Lester finished eighth with a time of 12.01 in the 100-meter race.
Junior Michael Biddle finished second in the men's javelin despite very difficult throwing conditions due to heavy rain. Biddle's top throw registered 216-3 (65.92m) to give him the second-place finish.
At the midway point of the decathlon events, freshman Noah Swaby sits fourth with 3,762 points and is second among college athletes. Swaby finished first in the shot put with a top-distance of 47-5.25 (14.46m) and placed third in the 400m in a time of 50.27.
Due to heavy rains, the remainder of the Friday events were postponed until Saturday.
