UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State women's lacrosse senior midfielder Kayla Brisolari was selected 12th overall by the WPLL Brave, located in Baltimore, on Thursday night during the league's Spring Draft. The two-time captain will become one of three Nittany Lion alums on WPLL rosters.
"We are so excited for Kayla to be drafted to the WPLL," said Head Coach Missy Doherty. "She is a workhorse player who can make an impact at both ends of the field."
The do-it-all midfielder was an IWLCA third-team All-America selection in 2018. She also earned Inside Lacrosse honorable-mention All-America accolades as well as being named IWLCA first-team All-Region and All-Big Ten.
Brisolari joins current volunteer coach Steph Lazo (2017) and Katie O'Donnell (2018), both playing for the Command, as Penn State alums in the WPLL. Director of Operations Katie Haus is a member of the Philadelphia Fire. Nittany Lion alum Michelle DeJuliis (1994-97) is the Founder and CEO of the WPLL.
"Kayla is a strong, gritty athlete with great size, who fits our defensive style so perfectly," said WPLL Brave Head Coach Sonia Lamonica. Her versatility will bring additional depth to both our defense and midfield."
The Tewaaraton Award Watch List member has collected 27 goals, eight assists, 36 ground balls, 62 draw controls and 25 caused turnovers this season. She leads the Big Ten with 1.67 caused turnovers per game. Brisolari has 12 games with two or more points and nine with two or more goals.
She collected four points in each game against Towson, Loyola and Virginia. She scored four times against Loyola and Virginia and tallied a goal and three assists in the season-opening win over Towson. Brisolari is currently riding a nine-game point streak.
In her Nittany Lion career, Brisolari has totaled 57 goals, 22 assists, 112 ground balls, 183 draw controls and 75 caused turnovers.
Brisolari has also found success in the classroom at Penn State. The Supply Chain Management major was an Academic All-Big Ten selection in 2017 and 2018. She is a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and was a member of the IWLCA Honor Roll in 2018.
The Nittany Lions close out the regular season on Saturday, April 27 when it hosts Rutgers. First draw is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Panzer Stadium with a broadcast on Big Ten Network. The Nittany Lions will celebrate Senior Day, their Pink Game and the 1989 National Championship Team.
