Nittany Lions Get Rolling in Second Round of Rod Myers Invitational

DURHAM, N.C. – The Penn State men's golf team knocked six strokes off its first-round total to finish the first day at the Rod Myers Invitational at 2-over 578 for sixth place. The Nittany Lions will start Sunday's final round on the Duke University Golf Club at 8:26 a.m. ET.
 
Lou Olsakovsky had the best day for the Nittany Lions with a 3-under 141 for 36 holes. The junior from Upper St. Clair, Pa., carded a 2-under 70 to finish the day after a 1-under 71 in the morning session. Olsakovsky is tied for 11th with three others.
 
"We played well most of the day," said Penn State men's golf coach Greg Nye. "The guys showed good fight, and did many things that we have been focusing on well. We let it get away over the final three holes." 
 
Both Lukas Clark (Holland,  Pa.) and James McHugh (Rye, N.Y.) were even in round two after first-round scores of 74 (2-over) and 73 (1-over), respectively. McHugh had a team-best nine birdies on Saturday and stands at 26th. Clark is two spots below at 28.
 
Seniors Alec Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) and Ryan Davis (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) are tied at 46th with 150 totals after two rounds. Davis had back-to-back birdies to open afternoon play (82-72=150) and finished even. Bard (74+76)
 
Freshman Jimmy Meyers (Wexford, Pa.), making his collegiate debut, improved in his second round at 7-over 79. He had three birdies on the day and made a birdie on the first hole of the afternoon session. His 161 score (82+79) places him 73rd overall.
 
Duke took the team lead after the first round with a 7-under 281. The Blue Devils turned it up a notch in the second round, firing a 14-under 274 to tie the tournament low round record.
 
North Carolina's Ryan Burnett holds the overall lead at 9-under 135 after two rounds. Burnett and Blue Devil Adrien Pendaries were the only two competitors to manage scores in the 60s for both rounds.
