WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The fortunes of the Penn State men's golf team changed from round one to round two on Monday at the Old Town Club Collegiate. The Nittany Lions trailed leader Wake Forest by one stroke after the first round with an 11-under 269, but fell to ninth with a 6-over 286 for a 5-under 555 team total. The 269 ties the program record for low score for 18 holes.
Senior Ryan Davis (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) is tied for 18th overall with a season-best 2-under 68 in the first round and 3-under 137 (68-69) for the day.
Senior Alec Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) and juniors Lukas Clark (Holland, Pa.) carded career-low rounds of 67 to start Monday. Junior Lou Olsakovsky (Upper St. Clair, Pa.) also had a 67 for his Penn State-best and tied his career low in that first round.
All three shot a 3-over 73 in the second round for even scores of 140 on the day and are tied for 29th. Junior James McHugh (Rye, N.Y.) recovered from a 5-over 75 in the first round with a 1-over 71 and 146 for a tie at 65th.
Washington leads the field by five strokes with a 23-under 537 as the Huskies carded an 8-under 272 in round one and a 15-under 265 in the second round. The Demon Deacons dropped back to the number-two spot at 542 (18-under) with a 6-under 274 after a 12-under 268 total in round one.
East Carolina's Blake Taylor posted a 7-under 63 in the morning round and Deacon Marco Steyn topped his first-round 66 with a 63 later in the day to take the lead at 11-under 129.
