UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State's Gabby Blossom earned the first Big Ten Women's Volleyball Setter of the Week award of her career on Monday, picking up the honor after helping the eighth-ranked Lions win road matches at Michigan and Michigan State over the weekend.
Blossom averaged 12.14 assists/set and 2.29 digs/set as Penn State won 3-1 over the Wolverines on Friday and 3-0 against the Spartans on Sunday. The wins upped the Lions' record to 14-3 overall and 7-1 in the Big Ten.
Blossom totaled 51 assists in the four-set win over Michigan, finishing just one shy of her career high that was set in a four-set match against Stanford earlier this season. She followed that with 34 assists while setting up five players for at least five kills in the sweep of Michigan State.
Penn State has won three Big Ten weekly awards this season. Kaitlyn Hord won one Player of the Week honor, while Kendall White picked up one Defensive Player of the Week accolade.
The Lions host No. 17 Illinois in a matchup of nationally-ranked teams from the Big Ten on Wednesday at Rec Hall. The match is scheduled for 8 p.m., and will air on the Big Ten Network.
