UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State Women's Lacrosse team opens its 2020 schedule on Saturday, February 1 with a scrimmage against Cincinnati. The contest will begin at 3 p.m. in Holuba Hall with doors opening at 2:30 p.m.
Penn State, led by Head Coach Missy Doherty, won eight games in 2019. The Nittany Lions return 24 members for the 2020 season and add 11 newcomers.
Senior Madison Carter returns for her fifth year in Happy Valley after an injury sidelined her early in 2019. Carter was named an Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-American and was ranked the 39th-best lacrosse player in the nation, combining men's and women's, by Inside Lacrosse. Carter enters the 2020 season ranking fifth all-time at Penn State with 197 career goals and seventh in program history with 218 career points.
Carter, senior attacker Maria Auth and sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Suplee were selected as Big Ten Players to Watch for the 2020 season. Auth led the Nittany Lions with 32 goals in 2019, earning All-Big Ten accolades. Suplee recorded 165 saves and a .481 save percentage in 2019, leading the Big Ten with 67 saves in conference games. She was No. 2 in the Big Ten and No. 24 in the nation with 9.71 saves per game.
Cincinnati, coached by Gina Thomas, went 12-7 last season and reached the American Athletic Conference (AAC) Championship game. Senior attacker Monica Borzillo returns after leading the Bearcats with 61 goals and 108 points in 2019.
Penn State begins the regular season on Saturday, February 8 at Towson with a noon first draw.
