Suplee Earns Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week Honor

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State women's lacrosse sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Suplee was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.  She played a major role in the Nittany Lions' season-opening 12-9 win over Towson on Saturday. Suplee earned her first career Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week award.

Suplee made 12 saves in the victory, including seven in the first half. Her stops included many key saves to stop the Tigers in transition.  Her 12 saves were the most in the Big Ten in week 1 and the 12th-most in the nation. She also had a career-high and team-high seven groundballs against Towson, the second-most in the nation in week 1.

It was Suplee's 10th career game with double-digit saves.  Her career high is 18 saves against Maryland in the 2019 Big Ten Semifinal.

Prior to the season, Suplee was named a Big Ten Player to Watch.  She finished No. 2 in the Big Ten with 9.71 saves per game in 2019.  She was also third in the conference in save percentage (.481) and total saves (165).

The Nittany Lions, led by Head Coach Missy Doherty, return to Panzer Stadium on Saturday for their home debut against Lehigh.  First draw is scheduled for 3 p.m., following the men's lacrosse game vs. Saint Joseph's. Tickets will be available at the stadium. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for youth (ages 12 and under).
