Carter Tabbed For Tewaaraton Award Watch List

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State women's lacrosse senior attacker Madison Carter was selected to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List on Thursday.  It marks Carter's fourth straight year as a member of the watch list.

Carter adds the honor after being named Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America third team in January.  The Maryland native will look to add to an already impressive Nittany Lion career.  She is a two-time IWLCA All-American, a three-time IWLCA All-Region selection, a three-time All-Big Ten pick and was the program's first Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2016.

Carter returns for her fifth year in the program after graduating with a degree in rehabilitation and human services in May 2019. She suffered an injury early in the 2019 season.  Carter is currently pursuing a master's degree in curriculum and instruction.

She tallied 17 goals, four assists, five ground balls, 24 draw controls and two caused turnovers through six games in 2019.  She had three multi-point games, including a career-high six goals against Cornell, five goals and six draw controls at Princeton and four goals and an assist vs. Towson.

The senior sits fifth all-time at Penn State with 197 career goals. She is also seventh in program history with 218 points. With five points against Towson in the 2019 season opener, Carter became the 15th Nittany Lion to reach the 200-point mark.

Penn State opens its second season in Panzer Stadium on Saturday against Lehigh. First draw is scheduled for 3 p.m. with a broadcast on BTN Plus. Tickets will be available at the stadium. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for youth (ages 12 and under).

The Nittany Lions, led by Head Coach Missy Doherty, won their season opener 12-9 at Towson.  Sophia Triandafils scored a team-high four goals, tying a career high.  Maria Auth and Kristin Roberto each tallied three goals.  Taylor Suplee was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week after making 12 saves.
