Multiple Nittany Lions Qualify for NCAA Championships

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Two individual Nittany Lions and the 200 freestyle relay team will represent Penn State at the 2020 NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championships hosted by Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and the Indiana Sports Corp, at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis.

Gabe Castano was chosen in the 50 freestyle and Michael Daly was chosen in the 200 back and 400 IM. Both are making their second consecutive appearances at NCAAs.

The 200 free relay team is slated to consist of Will Roberson, Austin Wilson, Juliusz Gosieniecki, and Castano. They swam an A-cut time of 1:17.04 at a Last Chance Meet last weekend, breaking their own school record and qualifying for an NCAA invite. The team broke the school-record they set at the Big Ten Championships of 1:17.38.

Castano holds the nation's fifth-fastest time in the 50 free after swimming a career-best in the event at the Big Ten Championships. His time of 19.06 earned him a silver medal and ranks him second-fastest all-time in school history.

Daly will represent the Nittany Lions at NCAA's in the 200 back and 400 IM. He won silver at Big Tens in the 200 back after swimming a career-best time of 1:40.63 that ranks him 16th in the NCAA this season and third-fastest all-time at Penn State. He also holds the school record in the 400 IM with his personal-best time of 3:43.00.

Castano placed 17th in the 50 free at the 2019 NCAA Championships, while Daly placed 26th in the 400 IM and 33rd in the 200 back.

Swimmers qualified for the championships by meeting the established minimum time for the events in which they entered.
