Two Nittany Lions Earn Big Ten Men’s Golf Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Penn State men's golf senior Ryan Davis was named to the All-Big Ten Conference first team as announced by the conference office on Monday. From Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, Davis led the Nittany Lions with a 71.48 stroke average in seven events in 2019-20. Junior James McHugh of Rye, New York, was named Penn State's 2020 Big Ten Sportsmanship Award winner.

Davis led the Nittany Lions with low scores in five of the seven events in the abbreviated 2019-20 season. His best finish of the season came at the Florida Gators Invitational in early February with a tie for fourth, helping the Nittany Lions to a third-place team finish. He tied his tournament career-low score with a 3-under 2017 at the event in Gainesville, Florida, after setting the mark at the Old Town Club Collegiate in fall 2019.

A two-time Academic All-Big Ten team member (2017-18 & 2018-19), Davis became only the seventh Nittany Lion to earn All-Northeast Region honors four times.

McHugh made five starts for Penn State in 2019-20 and in the season-opening tournament, the Rod Myers Invitational, shared the honors as the Nittany Lion top finisher. He carded his tournament-low score 215 at the event, and, in the final round, had his career-best round with a 2-under 70.

On March 12, the remainder of the spring 2020 competitions, including the Big Ten Men's Golf Championships, NCAA Regionals and NCAA Championships, were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
