Freshman Focus: Duane Knisely

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Freshman student-athlete Duane Knisely spoke about his first few weeks in Happy Valley as a part of our Freshman Focus series. Duane comes to Penn State from Alum Bank, Pa.

Knisely attended Chestnut Ridge High School prior to Happy Valley. Duane holds Chestnut Ridge school records in both the discus and the shot put. He earned all-state honors in both track and football. He also won 100 matches as a wrestler while at Chestnut Ridge.

Q: What were the main reasons you chose Penn State and this program?

A: I chose Penn State because of the great academic and athletic opportunities that are available for me here.

Q: What has been something you've most enjoyed about your first few weeks in Happy Valley?

A: I have most enjoyed getting to know some of my teammates and coaches.

Q: How have the first few weeks of classes been going?

A: The first few weeks of classes have been challenging but im getting into a routine that is allowing me to do well.

Q: What are some of your other hobbies outside of track?

A: Outside of track I enjoy hanging out with friends and being outdoors.

Q: Who inspired you most as an athlete and why?

A: Joe Kovacs has greatly motivated me as an athlete because of his mindset and work ethic.

Q: When did you know you wanted to throw in college?

A: I knew I wanted to throw in college when I began to do well competing against the top throwers in the state and at the national level.

Q: Favorite pro sports team and favorite sport to watch outside of track and why?

A: My favorite sports team is the Pittsburgh Steelers. My favorite sport to watch is football since I loved competing in it during high school.
