UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women's hockey team swept the CHA monthly awards for the month of January announcement Monday afternoon.
Junior forward Julie Gough (Newcastle, Ontario), freshman goaltender Josie Bothun (Wyoming, Minn.) and freshman forward Kiara Zanon (Fairport, N.Y.) were named CHA Player, Goalie and Rookie of the Month for January for their individual performances during the month.
Gough had a productive and impactful month for the Nittany Lions with seven points (2G, 5A) in six games. She scored the game-winning goal Jan. 8 at Robert Morris and added an assist for her first career multipoint game.
The win at RMU started Penn State's active eight-game unbeaten streak, the longest in program history.
The Player of the Month honor is Gough's first award from the conference.
Bothun won her second goalie of the month award (November) after leading Penn State to a 5-0-1 record during the month with just nine goals allowed.
She had a .943 save percentage for the month and currently ranks ninth in the nation with a season save percentage of .945 and seventh with a 1.55 GAA.
Zanon tied Gough for the team lead with seven points (3G, 4A) in PSU's six January games, three of which were multi-point efforts for the freshman center.
She leads the CHA with 17 points (7G, 10A) while ranking first among all national freshman with 1.21 points per game this season.
Penn State returns to action this Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 9-10, against RIT at Pegula Ice Arena. Both games will start at 5 p.m.
