UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Senior captain Frankie Tagliaferri has been named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week as announced by the league on Tuesday afternoon.
Tagliaferri earns the first Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week award of her career. Last week in the Nittany Lions two wins, Tagliaferri assisted on Ally Schlegel's goal in the 1-0 win over Iowa and netted the game-winner in the Nittany Lions 3-0 win over Nebraska on Sunday.
Penn State's 3-0 win over Nebraska clinched the 20th Big Ten title in program history.
Tagliaferri is second on the team with five assists and third on the team with four goals and 13 points during the 2021 spring season. Tagliaferri has been a staple for head coach Erica Dambach, appearing in 84 matches and starting 58. She has netted 21 goals and added 21 assists for 63 points in her four seasons in the navy and white.
Last season, Tagliaferri wrote her name into the Big Ten record book as she recorded four assists against Michigan State to tie the Big Ten record for assists in a game.
Tagliaferri and senior captain counterparts, Sam Coffey and Kerry Abello recently announced they would return for the fall 2021 season.
Penn State is back at Jeffrey Field to host Maryland on Saturday, April 3. The Nittany Lions are 8-1-1, 8-1-1 heading into the matchup with Maryland.
