UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State swimming's Marie Schobel was invited to the 2021 NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships on Wednesday evening for the 100 backstroke by the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Committee.
The junior has been swimming consistent NCAA B-cut times in the 100 backstroke all season, topping the season off with a 400 medley relay first leg time of 52.34 for her career best at Big Ten Championships.
She has now placed in the top 10 of the 100 backstroke two years in a row at Big Ten Championships, placing 10th in 2020 (52.98) and 6th in 2021 (53.11).
At the home meet against Michigan State in the beginning of February, Schobel swam 52.95, which at the time was a personal best.
Schobel also qualified for the 2020 NCAA Championships in the 100 backstroke but was not able to attend since the championships were cancelled due to COVID-19.
The Championships will be held in Greensboro, North Carolina from Wednesday, March 17 to Saturday, March 20 at Greensboro Aquatic Center. Every day, prelims will be held at 10 a.m. and finals will be at 6 p.m.
