Nittany Lions Fall in Game Two of Series to the Huskers

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State baseball team (8-15, 8-15) dropped the second game of the series to the Nebraska Cornhuskers (17-6, 17-6) 11-2 Saturday afternoon.

The Huskers tallied 17 hits in the win an limited a Penn State offense which had been clicking in its last 10 games.

How it Happened

  • The Huskers jumped on top in the top of the first. The Huskers had five hits in the first six batters, grabbing an early 4-0 lead. Another RBI single made it 5-0 after the top of the first.
  • Nebraska added another run in the top of the second, an unearned run on an RBI double to make it 6-0.
  • The Nittany Lions looked to trim the lead in the bottom of the second. Back-to-back singles to open the inning put runners on first and second with no outs. A fielders choice put runners on the corners for Parker Hendershot. Hendershot reached on an infield single and that allowed Justin Williams to score.
  • Nebraska got the run back in the top of the fourth to push the lead back to 7-1.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, Josh Spiegel singled up the middle with two outs. Curtis Robison doubled off the wall in right center to score Spiegel all the way from first and cut the lead to five.
  • The Huskers would add another run in the top of the sixth to take an 8-2 lead over Penn State and two more in the seventh to take a 10-2 lead.
  • Nebraska would score one more in the ninth to finish the scoring in the second game of the series.
  • The Nittany Lions and Huskers will wrap up the three-game series on Sunday morning with first pitch schedule for 11 a.m. ET
