NIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Four members of head coach Char Morett-Curtiss' Penn State field hockey team have earned post-season honors for the 2020-21 Big Ten season with the announcement of the All-Big Ten teams and Sportsmanship Award winners. The Nittany Lions have one first team honoree and two second team members.
Freshman Sophia Gladieux (Boyertown, Pa.) earned first team All-Big Ten honors as a rookie this season. Gladieux, who just today earned her second Big Ten Freshman of the Week award, currently leads Penn State with 24 points off a team-best 11 goals and two assists. She was also named NFHCA National Player of the Week during the course of the season.
Senior Abby Myers (Hartland, Wis.) earned second team All-Big Ten honors this year. The Penn State midfielder has two points off two assists this year and heads into the Big Ten tournament with 31 career points off 12 goals and seven assists. Myers earned second team NFHCA All-Region honors a year ago and earned a spot on the All-Big Ten Tournament Team.
Sophomore back Elena Vos (Grave, The Netherlands) earned second team All-Big Ten honors this season, her first post-season accolade as a Nittany Lion. The anchor of Penn State's defense during the campaign, Vos has six points this year off six assists as she plays a key role on Penn State's penalty corner attack. Vos has started every game this season and all but one during her two years at Penn State.
Senior Emma Spisak (Boiling Springs, Pa.) has earned Penn State's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award for the 2020-21 campaign. Spisak has four points off two goals this season and heads into the Big Ten tournament with 12 points off five goals and two assists.
Penn State closed out the regular season with a 7-6 mark, 5-2 in the Big Ten. Ohio State ends its regulars season 5-8, 2-5 in the conference standings. The Nittany Lions now prepare for the Big Ten Tournament beginning this week at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. Penn State will be the No. 2 seed in the tournament and will take on, for the third straight game, Ohio State, the No. 7 seed. Game time in Iowa city is set for 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21. The game airs live nationally on the Big Ten Network.
