UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men's lacrosse team earned the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Big Ten Tournament and will host sixth-seeded Johns Hopkins in the quarterfinal round Saturday at Panzer Stadium. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Big Ten Network.
The Nittany Lions clinched the No. 3 seed with a 10-9 win over Ohio State on Saturday. The Lions and Buckeyes tied for third in the Big Ten with 4-6 records, but Penn State took the higher seed with a 2-0 record against Ohio State on the season.
The winner between Penn State and Johns Hopkins will play second-seeded Rutgers in the semifinal round. On the other side of the bracket, top-seeded Maryland is in the semifinals and awaits the winner between fourth-seeded Ohio State and fifth-seeded Michigan.
Both the semifinal and championship games will be played at Panzer Stadium. The semifinal games are set for 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 6. The championship game is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Saturday May 8. All games will air live on Big Ten Network.
Penn State and Johns Hopkins split their two games during the regular season. The Blue Jays held the Lions scoreless in the third quarter in a 13-6 win on March 13. The Lions turned things around just two weeks later to beat the Blue Jays 11-8 behind four goals from Mac O'Keefe.
The teams have played twice in the Big Ten Tournament. Johns Hopkins beat Penn State 14-9 in the semifinal round in 2015. The Lions defeated the Blue Jays 18-17 to win the 2019 title. O'Keefe scored off an assist from TJ Malone in overtime to secure the tournament crown.
