UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – With the match in the balance, senior Gabby O'Gorman (Gunnedah, N.S. Wales) and freshman Sofiya Chekhlystova (Talinn, Estonia) delivered with three-set victories to claim a 4-3 win over Wisconsin. Penn State improves to 9-6 after defeating the Badgers for the first time since 2018.
Doubles
Penn State started strong by securing the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and 3.
Samantha Smith (Cary, N.C.) and Olivia Ryan (Victoria, Australia) dominated Jordan Ossa and Charmaine Seah in a 6-0 win.
Chekhlystova and Alexandra Nielsen (Vancouver, B.C., Canada) looked solid in a 6-3 victory over Natasya Semenovski and Ava Markham.
O'Gorman and Karly Friedland (Hollywood, Fla.) were leading 4-3 against Xinyu Cai and Anna Markova in a match that was left unfinished.
Singles
Wisconsin tied the score at one apiece as Lebedeva fell to Seah 1-6, 2-6.
Nielsen was defeated by Ossa 5-7, 3-6 as Wisconsin took a 2-1 lead.
Penn State pulled back even as Smith defeated Markova 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
Wisconsin quickly reclaimed the lead as Svarre lost to Semenovski 0-6, 7-5, 3-6.
O'Gorman tied the match with her three- set comeback win over Markham 2-6, 7-5, 6-4.
Chekhlystova sealed the victory for the Nittany Lions with a 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 performance against #125 Denise-Antonela Stoica.
