O’Gorman Earns All-Big Ten Honors

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Senior Gabby O'Gorman (Gunnedah, N.S. Wales, Australia) has been announced as a unanimous All-Big Ten selection, while freshman Alexandra Nielsen (Vancouver, BC, Canada) was named Penn State's recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, the conference announced Monday afternoon.

"I'm so proud of both Gabby and Alexandra to earn these honors," said head coach Alexandra Anghelescu. "It has been a privilege to watch them grow on and off the court. Their leadership is what's going to change this program and culture, and to have earned honors such as All-Big Ten and the Big Ten's Sportsmanship Award really shows that everyone on the team holds themselves to a high standard!"

O'Gorman became the first Nittany Lion to be selected to the All-Conference team since Kimberly-Ann Surin received the honor in 2016. Of the 14 All-Big Ten selections, O'Gorman was one of six unanimous selections ending the season with an 8-9 singles record highlighted by a win over Minnesota's Rachel Hanford. O'Gorman also compiled a 6-8 record in doubles, partnering with Karly Friedland (Hollywood, Fla.) and Nielsen at various points in the season.

Nielsen received a Big Ten Sportsmanship Award after earning a 6-8 singles record and a 7-7 doubles record while partnering with Sofiya Chekhlystova (Talinn, Estonia), O'Gorman, and Olivia Ryan (Victoria, Australia) throughout the season. The Big Ten Sportsmanship Award  recognizes exemplary character towards both teammates and opponents.
