MISSION VIEJO, Calif. – Penn State men's swimmer Gabe Castano broke his own Mexican national record in the 50 freestyle with a 22.18 time in Friday morning preliminaries at the Swim Meet of Champions event in Mission Viejo, California. Castano clocked the time on his first split of the 100 freestyle, breaking his previous record of 22.20 set in 2019. He races in the 50 freestyle preliminaries Saturday morning.
Castano scored 22 points for the Nittany Lions at the 2021 Big Ten Conference Championships, highlighted by an eighth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle A-final (19.44).
