Penn State Women's Tennis Opens Super ITA Regionals

Charlottesville, VA.-- Kicking off the Super ITA Regionals in Charlottesville, VA on Friday, Women's Tennis earned two huge wins on the court. Nittany Lions Yvonne Zuffova and Sofiya Chekhlystova will continue to round 16 of singles play tomorrow, Oct. 23 beginning at 9:00am. 

Singles 

Penn State collected two huge wins today in singles play. Chekhlystova defeated her opponent Hibah Shaikh of Virginia in a two-set match. Chekhylstova controlled a shut out set against Shaikh 6-0 in the first set and secured her win in the second set, 6-3. In the singles round of 16 Chekhylstova will battle Marina Alcaide of Old Dominion.  

Yvonne Zuffova earned Penn States second win of the day by defeating Sofia Munera in a two-set match, 7-5, 5-4, retirement (due to injury.) Yvonne will take on Old Dominion's Yuliia Starodubteva tomorrow in round 16 of singles play tomorrow. 

Gabby O'Gorman struggled through her first set against Maria Juliana Parra Romero of Liberty, 0-6. O'Gorman put up a great fight in the second set, however in the end was defeated 7-5.  

The Nittany Lions were unable to advance any doubles duos into tomorrow's quarterfinals round of  play.
