UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; October 4, 2021 – Penn State sophomore Sophia Gladieux (Boyertown, Pa.) has been named Big Ten Field Hockey's Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 3, 2021. The honor is the second this year for the Penn State forward.
Gladieux continued her offensive barrage in 2021, scoring three goals in a 2-0 week for Penn State against Big Ten foes. Gladieux scored two goals in Penn State's 4-1 win over Indiana on Friday night, including Penn State's first of the game late in the second period. Two days later, the Lion sophomore scored the game-winning goal in a thrilling 2-1 double-overtime victory over No. 4 Northwestern. Gladieux ended the week with six points off three goals.
She leads Penn State with 22 points off ten goals and two assists. Penn State improved to 8-2 overall with the two victories and is now 3-1 in Big Ten play. Penn State will host Rutgers on Friday at 4 p.m. at the Field Hockey Complex and Bucknell on Saturday at 2 p.m. in a non-conference game.
