Raleigh, N.C.. – For the past three days, Penn State Women's Swimming & Diving competed at the NC State Invitational against host NC State, Duke, Stanford, ASU, Army, UNC, UNC-W and James Madison. On the final day of the invite, Penn State sent 21 athletes to finals. The team's performance this evening was highlighted by senior Marie Schobel and sophomore Cat Stanford in the 200 back and 100 free.
At the conclusion of the event, Penn State scored a total of 856 points and placed sixth overall.
Top Swims
Schobel swam the 200 back in 1:54.41 to place fifth overall. Her time is Penn State's third fastest and a personal best by over half a second.
Freshman Molly Carson and sophomore Anna Redican also scored for the Nittany Lions in the backstroke finishing 18th (1:58.63) and 19th (1:59.61).
Stanford's time of 49.15 earned her fifth in the 100 free. It's also Penn State's fifth fastest and a personal best.
By placing 18th (50.24) and 19th (50.28), senior Kate Sheridan and junior Abbie Amdor also scored for the Nittany Lions in the 100 free.
Sophomore Kylie Rydland led Penn State in the 200 breast by finishing 20th with a time of 2:18.20.
Sophomore Morgan Rinn, junior Devon Forker, sophomore Annie Walls and senior Marget Shelly scored for the Nittany Lions by placing 13th (1:59.68), 20th (2:03.21), 22nd (2:05.10) and 24th (2:07.28).
Top Dives
Junior Wei Wei impressed in the platform dive qualifying for finals and placing sixth overall with a score of 183.50. Senior Sierra Shurts also qualified for finals.
Nittany Lions Relays
Amdor, Stanford, Sheridan and freshman Marly Lough swam the 400 free relay in 3:20.56 to earn tenth place.

Final exams and winter break training are next for the Nittany Lions. This coming semester, Penn State will open the New Year against Army West Point on Friday, January 7.
