Three Former Nittany Lions Represented in Super Bowl LVI

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – A total of 39 Penn State alums are populating the rosters of 24 National Football League teams. The Nittany Lions are perennially a top-20 program in producing players in the NFL.

For the 51st time, Penn State will have a representative in the Super Bowl with a three lettermen being a part of the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Rams. Former Penn State safety Nick Scott (Rams) and cornerback Grant Haley (Rams) will go against former tight end Al Golden (Bengals linebackers coach) in Super Bowl LVI, set for 6:30 p.m. Sunday on NBC.

This season will mark the 51st time Penn State has been represented in the Super Bowl. Last season, four Nittany Lions were represented on Super Bowl organization rosters. Chris Godwin, A.Q. Shipley, Donovan Smith and the Tampa Bay Bucaneers earned a victory over Stefen Wisniewski and the Kansas City Chiefs.

In 2020, the Nittany Lions had a league-high five alumni on the 53-man rosters of the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers. The five alumni in the Super Bowl are the most for the Nittany Lions since Super Bowl XXXV (2001). Wisniewski and defensive back Jordan Lucas earned the victory in the 2020 game.

Forty-four Nittany Lions have claimed 63 Super Bowl rings (including non-Penn State football players).
