Nittany Lions Ready to Elevate the Stage in Toledo

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women's gymnastics team heads back on the road Saturday for the Elevate the Stage Big Five Meet in Toledo, Ohio.
 
The five-team Big Ten meet is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. and will be streamed live on FloGymnastics.

COMPETING TEAMS

A LOOK BACK AT MICHIGAN 
 
The Penn State women's gymnastics team (3-4) recorded its second highest score of the season last weekend at Michigan.
 
The day started on bars, where Penn State continued its season-long streak of 49+ scores with a 49.050. Alissa Bonsall led the team with a 9.875 score on the apparatus.
 
The team followed with a 48.950 score on vault with Cassidy Rushlow and Lauren Bridgens leading the way with matching 9.825 scores.
 
Melissa Astarita matched her best score of the season on floor with a 9.875 to lead Penn State to its second 49.0 score of the day.
 
In the final event of the day, the Nittany Lions produced their top beam score of the season with a 48.875. Bridgens led the group with a 9.850 to close out a strong all-around score of 39.275.
 
RACKING UP THE 9.9s
  
The Nittany Lions have added eight additions to their 9.9 wall, with Alissa BonsallLauren Bridgens and Isabella Salcedo recording scores of 9.9+ twice each this season. Kourtney Chinnery set a career high of 9.900 on vault against Illinois and Nikki Beckwith added her first 9.9 score on bars at Iowa.
 
NEW FACES 
  
Penn State added eight athletes to the roster for the 2022 season. Isabella Salcedo and Elina Vihrova were named Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch ahead of their first meet as Nittany Lions. The duo is among seven gymnasts in Penn State's freshman class. Penn State also welcomed sophomore Sarah Duhe, a transfer from the University of Alabama.
