Nittany Lions Compete at Big Ten Gymnastics Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Penn State women's gymnastics team competed in the first of two sessions at the Big Ten Championships on Saturday, finishing the day in sixth place with a score of 194.700.

The Nittany Lions were strong on three of four events, recording scores of 49+ on bars, floor and vault. The team's 49.225 score on bars tied for Penn State's second-best score on the apparatus this season.
 
Cassidy Rushlow highlighted the solid start for the Nittany Lions with a season-best tying 9.900 score. Lauren Bridgens also had a solid routine, posting a 9.875 score.
 
Freshman Isabella Salcedo once again shined on floor, recording her fifth-straight 9.900 score in the event. It marks her seventh 9.9 on floor this season. Fellow freshman Elina Vihrova also had a strong performance in the event, posting a score of 9.875. Vihrova has recorded scores above a 9.8 on floor in five straight meets.

The Nittany Lions will find out their status for regional competition at this week's NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships Selection Show.
 
The 2022 NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championship teams, all-around competitors, and individual event specialists will be announced on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, prior to regional competition beginning on March 30. The championship consists of a field of 36 teams determined based on their national qualifying score. Teams 1-16 are seeded by the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Committee and the remaining teams are placed geographically at one of the four regional sites. Included in the championship field are also 12 all-around competitors and 64 individual event specialists (all of whom are not on a qualifying team).
