UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State freshman running back Nicholas Singleton was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday. Singleton scored on runs of 70 and 44 yards on Saturday to help Penn State to a 46-10 win over Ohio.
 
Singleton earned his first career Big Ten weekly honor. He is Penn State's first Big Ten Freshman of the Week since Joey Porter Jr. following the Rutgers game (12/5) in 2020.

·       Singleton rushed for a career-high 179 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries on Saturday.
·       Singleton scored on a 70-yard run in the first quarter. It was his first career touchdown rush.
·       He added a 44-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
·       Singleton also had a 48-yard run in the third quarter.
·       The 179 rushing yards by Singleton is a Penn State record for a Beaver Stadium debut.
·       Became the first Nittany Lion with multiple 40+ yard touchdown runs in a game since Larry Johnson at Indiana on Nov. 16, 2002 (touchdown runs of 41, 43 and 69 yards).
·       Singleton is the first Nittany Lion with three 40+ yard runs in a game since Johnson's performance against Indiana (runs of 41, 41, 43 and 69).
·       The 70-yard run is Penn State's longest run since an 85-yard run by Journey Brown against Pittsburgh in 2019.
·       His 70-yard run is the longest by a Penn State freshman since Devyn Ford's 81-yard run against Idaho in 2019.
·       Singleton became Penn State's first 100-yard rusher and first 100-yard freshman rusher since Keyvone Lee had 134 yards at Michigan in 2020.
·       Singleton is the first Penn State running back with multiple 40+ yard runs in a game since Journey Brown in the 2019 Cotton Bowl vs. Memphis (44 and 56 yards)
·       His 219 all-purpose yards (179 rushing, 40 kick return) are the most since WR Jahan Dotson's 254 (242 receiving, 12 punt return) at Maryland in 2021.
·       He added two 20-yard kick returns on Saturday.
·       Through two games, Singleton has 210 yards, averaging 105.0 per game and 10.5 per carry.
·       He leads the nation in yards per carry, ranks 13th in rushing yards per game, 22nd in total rushing yards and 10th in all-purpose yards per game (157.0).
·       Singleton paces FBS freshmen in rushing yards per game and all-purpose yards.
·       Since 2000, only Saquon Barkley (260; 2017) and Larry Johnson (215; 2002) have more rushing yards than Singleton through the first two games of a season.
·       He ranks third in the Big Ten in kick return average (20.8).
 
No. 22/23 Penn State travels to Auburn on Saturday, September 17. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on CBS.
 
The Nittany Lions return to Beaver Stadium on Saturday, September 24 to take on Central Michigan. The game will be broadcast on Big Ten Network with a kickoff time TBD.
