Penn State Swimming & Diving Travels to Raleigh for NC State Invitational

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State swimming & diving travels to the three-day N.C. State Invitational, beginning Thursday, November 17 and concluding Saturday, November 19 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center (GAC). 
 
Preliminary competition begins at 9:30 a.m. each day of the mid-season meet as athletes compete for placement in championship, consolation and bonus finals at 5:30 p.m.

The Nittany Lions: 
Penn State's four B1G weekly award honorees highlight both teams. 
 
Victor Baganha won the conference's swimmer of the week after a pair of individual victories in the 100 Fly and 50 Free on the road against Boston and Navy. Most recently, the sophomore sprinter broke 20 seconds in the 50 Free and swam to an NCAA B-Cut time in the 100 Fly (47.12).  
 
The B1G tabbed graduate student Daphne Wils as diver of the week after she claimed two pairs of school and pool records in the 1-Meter (312.60) and 3-Meter (356.10) dives during her first meet at McCoy Natatorium. 
 
Standouts Mariano Lazzerini and Julia Meisner took both freshman swimming awards after a tri-road meet against Boston and Navy. During their first in-season collegiate meet, Meisner triumped in the 200 Fly and 200 IM while Lazzerini helped lead the breaststroke squad to sweep their events of the day, winning the 100 and touching second in the 200. 
 
Women:
The women's team arrives at NC State with a 4-1 record after downing West Virginia at home two weeks ago. 
 
Freshman Catherine Meisner, junior Cat Stanford, graduate student Olivia Jack and senior Captain Emma Harvey lead the squad in the mid-distance free as well as the sprint free, breast and fly events respectively. 
 
Men:
Guided by senior captains William Lulek, Lachlan Byrne and Kevin Sullivan, distance freshman freestyler Eduardo Cisternas and freshman diver Haydon Elliott, the men arrive at the GAC after winning against West Virginia two weeks ago. 

The Competition: 
The nationally ranked Stanford (second – women's), NC State (fourth – men's and women's), and Arizona State (fifth – men's) are among the teams Penn State will face over the course of the weekend, including the competitive squads from Duke, Army, George Washington* and UNC Asheville.*
