GREENSBORO, N.C. – Penn State men's swimming & diving started on a high note at the NC State Invitational Thursday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center, finishing fourth with 230.5 at the final.
"A number of really strong performances in the pool and on the boards – overall a good first day," said Penn State swimming and diving head coach Tim Murphy. "Two more full days of trials and finals. The level of the competition is extremely high. We need to continue to respond."
Top Swims:
Freshman Eduardo Cisternas wiped 3.30 seconds from his time in the men's 500 Free with a 12th place finish at 4:22.19.
Sophomore Victor Baganha took fourth place with an NCAA B Cut finish in the men's 50 free at 19.38.
Relays:
The team of Baganha, Lazzerini, Doyle, and Hurley take fourth place in the men's 200 free relay with a time of 1:18.63.
The men also claimed a ninth place finish in the men's 200 free relay with the team of Daniel Räisänen, Zane Sutton, Justin Schneider, and Lachlan Byrne finishing in 1:20.96 with a 3.16 second drop in time from their preliminary time.
In their final event of the evening, the men finished in fifth place with a time of 3:09.34. Byrne, Lazzerini, Baganha, and Hurley took 6.02 seconds off of their preliminary time from earlier in the day.
Top Dives:
Hayden Elliott continued on to the finals and scored 333.35 on the 1-meter dive for a first place victory.
