UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State's women's gymnastics team comes in at No. 35 in the country in the initial WCGA preseason coaches poll, as announced by the association on Dec. 9.
The Nittany Lions finished last season ranked No. 40 in the RoadToNationals rankings, and they return two NCAA Regional qualifiers from the 2022 season in senior Cassidy Rushlow and sophomore Isabella Salcedo. Penn State also returns sophomore Jessica Johanson, whose 9.9 score on bars tied for the team lead in the event last season.
The additions of junior transfer Gabbie Gallentine and freshmen Ava Piedrahita, Amani Herring, Haleigh Gibble, and Katie Leary have the Nittany Lions primed for a solid 2023 campaign.
Penn State begins its season with a trip to Pittsburgh for the Keystone Classic, where it will take on Temple, Penn, and Pitt. The Nittany Lions' first home competition comes a week later when the squad returns to Rec Hall to compete against Penn, LIU, and Southern Connecticut State.
