No. 10/9 Women's Hockey Downs RIT 8-1

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The No. 10/9 Penn State women's ice hockey team downed RIT 8-1 in game one of the two game set on Friday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Just 1:30 into the opening frame, Olivia Wallin scored the opening goal of the game to put Penn State ahead 1-0.
  • Two minutes later, 3:42 into the period, Lexi Bedier scored her first goal of the season to give Penn State a commanding 2-0 lead.
  • 27 seconds after the midway point in the period, Tessa Janecke found the back of the net to put Penn State ahead 3-0.
  • In the closing minutes of the frame, RIT tallied its first and only goal of the game to end the period with Penn State ahead 3-1.
  • Three minutes into the second period, Alyssa Machado found the open hole off assists by Lyndie Lobdell and Mya Vaslet to put the Nittany Lions ahead 4-1.
  • With six minutes remaining in the second frame, Eleri MacKay scored her first goal of the game to put Penn State ahead 5-1.
  • The Nittany Lions added three more goals in the final frame off the sticks of MacKay, Lobdell and a power-play goal by Bedier to secure the 8-1 victory.

GOALTENDING

  • Josie Bothun picked up her 22nd win of the season stopping 12 shots and allowing just one goal. 

GAME NOTES AND STATS

  • Lexi Bedier recorded her first multi-goal game of her career.
  • Courtney Correia had a three-assist day for her third three-point game of the season.
  • Seven Penn State players tallied at lead one goal.
  • Eleri MacKay registered her fourth multi-goal game of the year.
  • Penn State moves to 23-8-2 overall and 13-1-1 in CHA play. 
  • The Nittany Lions are now on a 14-game unbeaten streak which puts the streak tied for third in CHA history.
