Men’s Swimming & Diving Begins B1G Championships with Top-Eight Finishes and a Top-10 Record

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Penn State men's swimming & diving began the 2023 B1G Championships with a pair of top-eight finishes in Wednesday's relays as freshman Eduardo Cisternas rocketed into the program's top-10 timesheet in his lead-off 200 Free at Canham Natatorium.
 

"Solid swims tonight," Penn State head coach Tim Murphy said. "Big day tomorrow morning."

 
Relays: 
Racing began in Ann Arbor as senior captain Lachlan Byrne, freshman Mariano Lazzerini, sophomore Victor Baganha and junior Tommy Hurley sprinted to eighth in the 200 Medley (1:25.89).  
 
The 800 Free relay team then dropped 6.22 seconds from their season-best, also touching eighth (6:29.35). Eduardo Cisternas led the squad, the standout freshman's opening 1:36.23 200 Free split places him seventh in the Nittany Lions' top-10 record book. 
 
Point Scorers: 
200 Medley Relay – Lachlan Byrne, Mariano Lazzerini, Victor Baganha, Tommy Hurley (44 Points)
800 Free Relay –  Eduardo Cisternas, Ryan McNutt, Jack Harvey, Lachlan Byrne (44 Points)
 
Up Next: 
The Nittany Lions return to Canham Natatorium Thursday for day two of the B1G Championships, beginning with prelims at 10 a.m. and concluding with finals at 5 p.m.
