NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Penn State men's lacrosse team had a big scoring day as they defeated No. 7/5 Yale 13-11 on Saturday afternoon. This is the second straight year the Nittany Lions have defeated the nationally ranked Bulldogs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After both teams started the first quarter with a goal with 12:33 remaining, Penn State went on a 7-0 scoring run including four by Matt Traynor to put the Nittany Lions up 8-1 after the first quarter.
- Jeb Brenfleck recorded two back-to-back man-up goals in the quarter as well.
- Yale opened the second quarter with four unanswered goals before Jack Traynor scored his second goal of the game to make the score 8-5 with 6:48 remaining in the half.
- Chris Jordan had the final say in the second quarter scoring his ninth goal of the year with 3:53 remaining to put Penn State ahead 10-6 after the first half.
- Yale opened the second half with two straight goals to cut the Penn State lead to 10-8. with 2:16 remaining.
- TJ Malone followed with his second goal of the game with 1:16 remaining in the quarter to put Penn State up three goals heading into the final frame.
- Malone kept scoring in the fourth quarter as he and Matt Traynor each picked up a goal with 9:32 remaining in the game to put Penn State ahead 13-8.
- Yale then fired off three straight goals in the quarter but wasn't enough as Penn State took the victory 13-11 over the Bulldogs.
GOALTENDING
- Jack Fracyon allowed 11 goals on 26 shots to improve his record to 3-1 on the year.

- TJ Malone tallied his 13th career hat-trick.
- Matt Traynor registered his first career hat-trick with five goals on the day.
- Jeb Brenfleck captured his first multi-goal game with two in the game.
- Chase Mullins went 14-28 in the faceoff circle.
