COLUMBUS, Ohio- Josh Karnes' all-around champion title led Penn State to a second-place finish in its tri-meet with Ohio State and Oklahoma. The Nittany Lions scored a 404.450, one of their highest team scores of the season.
Penn State earned its highest parallel bars team score (70.100) since 2017 and highest score of the meet. The Nittany Lions also had the highest team score on high bar (65.700) and rings (67.350).
Karnes has competed in the all-around just twice this season and came away the Champion both times. His 83.950 score tonight is a career high and one of the highest scores in the country this season. Karnes also won event titles on parallel bars with a 14.550 and high bar with a 13.550. The Senior National Team member also earned second on rings (13.600), tied for second on vault (14.450) and earned a career best and third place finish on pommel horse (14.100).
Freshman Matt Underhill recorded his second straight rings title with his score of 14.000 and stick bonus in today's performance. He also posted a fourth-place finish on vault with a 14.400, matching his score from last meet.
Matt Cormier's career high 14.250 on parallel bars secured a third-place event finish and his 13.500 on high bar earned him second place.
Ian Raubal scored a personal best on parallel bars with a 14.100 and fifth place rank.
