Women’s Gymnastics Earns Spot in Pittsburgh NCAA Regional

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women's gymnastics team has been selected to compete in the Pittsburgh Regional of the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championship scheduled to begin competition on March 29 in Pittsburgh, Pa.
 
The Nittany Lions will take on Towson in a play-in dual meet at 2 p.m. ET on Thursday, March 30, with the winner advancing to the next day of competition on Friday, March 31.
 
The NCAA selection committee identified the top 16 teams and seeded them in the bracket. Teams 17-36 were placed geographically at one of the four regional sites. Eight teams from each region will compete on day one of their respective regionals, with the top four teams moving on to day two of competition. The top two placing teams in day three of the competition will advance to compete at the NCAA Championship in Fort Worth, Texas.
 
Additionally, three Penn State gymnasts were selected as automatic individual qualifiers for the regional round. Senior Cassidy Rushlow earned a spot in bars competition, while junior Maddie Johnston and freshman Ava Piedrahita both qualified in the all-around. These three will compete in the regional round on Friday regardless of Penn State's result on Thursday.
 
In addition to Penn State and Towson, the Pittsburgh Regional will host No. 2 Florida, No. 7 California, No. 10 Michigan State, No. 15 Arizona State, Western Michigan, West Virginia, and Maryland.
