COLLEGE PARK, MD.- The ninth-ranked Penn State men's lacrosse team opened Big Ten play with a 13-10 loss to second-ranked Maryland on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Just one minute into the game, TJ Malone opened the scoring for Penn State to put them ahead 1-0 with 14:00 minutes remaining.
- Maryland scored six minutes later off the stick of Zach Whittier to tie the game up at 1-1.
- The Terrapins added another goal two minutes later with 6:13 remaining to take a 2-1 lead.
- Jack Traynor then scored back-to-back goals to regain the lead with 2:07 remaining in the quarter.
- Maryland closed the quarter with three unanswered goals to take a 5-3 lead after one.
- The Terrapins started the second quarter with three unanswered goals to take an 8-3 lead with 14:19 remaining in the half.
- Kevin Winkoff closed the scoring drought with 12:45 remaining to narrow the Maryland lead to 8-4.
- Maryland answered right after with a goal by Owen Murphy with 10:42 remaining in the half to regain a five-goal lead.
- Penn State the scored four unanswered goals off the sticks of Matt Traynor, TJ Malone and Mac Costin and Jack Traynor to cut the Maryland lead to 9-8.
- Maryland closed the half with a goal by Jack Koras with four seconds left to make the score 10-8.
- Only two goals were scored in the third quarter with a goal by Jack Traynor with 14:22 remaining and a goal by Maryland with 13:09 remaining to send the game into the fourth quarter with Maryland ahead 11-9.
- Maryland opened the fourth quarter with a goal off the stick of Kyle Long to give the Terrapins a 12-9 lead.
- The Terrapins added another goal with 5:30 remaining in the quarter to give Maryland a 13-9 lead.
- Kevin Winkoff then scored his second goal of the game with 2:58 remaining to make the final score 13-10.
GOALTENDING
- Jack Fracyon allowed 13 goals on 26 shots and dropped his record to 5-3 on the year.

- Jack Traynor scored his first hat-trick of the season.
- Kevin Winkoff tallied his fourth multi-goal game of the year.
