Men’s Gymnastics Set to Compete at Big Ten Championships

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA.- Penn State men's gymnastics is set to compete at the 2023 Big Ten Championships on Friday, March 31 and Saturday, April 1 in Columbus, Ohio. All-around and team Champions will be determined following Friday's competition and those that qualify, will move onto individual event Championships on Saturday. Both days will be nationally televised on the Big Ten Network and will begin at 8 p.m.
 
Penn State is ranked sixth in the Road to Nationals rankings this week as well as fourth in the Big Ten.

LAST TIME OUT

  • Penn State men's gymnastics finished its regular season with a 396.400-382.750 win at William & Mary.
  • The Nittany Lions took three event wins on pommel horse, rings and high bar while William & Mary grabbed the other three on floor, vault and parallel bars.
  • Freshman Ian Raubal was the all-around champion (80.700) and earned event titles on rings (14.200), parallel bars (13.650) and tied for first on high bar (14.000) with a career best. 
  • Ethan Dick and Will Fleck also competed in the all-around, Dick finishing in second with a 78.400 and Fleck with a 75.500 in fourth.
  • Raubal swept Big Ten weekly awards following the weekend, winning Gymnast and Freshman of the Week.
  • Penn State owns 10 out of the 20 Big Ten weekly honors, the most of any conference school. 

HISTORY AT BIG CHAMPS 

  • Penn State owns four Big Ten Championships in 2003, 2008, 2015 and 2019, all under the direction of head coach Randy Jepson.
  • There have been 29 Nittany Lions to win individual event titles at Big Ten Championships including Chase Clingman, current senior who took the pommel horse title in 2022 and went on to be the NCAA Champion.
  • Penn State came in fifth-place at the 2022 Championships held in Rec Hall.
  • Six gymnasts qualified for event finals in 2022 including Michael Jaroh, Matt Cormier, Clingman, Nick Mock and Josh Karnes.
