Malone and Mullins Capture Big Ten Weekly Awards

CHICAGO, Ill.- Penn State men's lacrosse student-athletes TJ Malone and Chase Mullins each captured Big Ten Weekly awards on Tuesday afternoon. It is the first weekly award for each of the student-athletes this season. 

Mullins, who garnered Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors, was dominate in the face-off circle on Saturday. The freshman won 19-28 face-offs against Johns Hopkins while also scooping five ground balls. His 19 face-off wins were tied for the most he has had this season as he also tallied 19 wins against Penn on March 4. On the year, the Glen Allen, Va. product has won 99 face-offs and recorded a face-off win percentage of .524. This is the first weekly award honor Mullins has earned in his career.

Malone, who was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, led the Nittany Lions on the offensive attack on Saturday. The West Chester, Pa. native had a single-game high eight points as he tallied four goals alongside four assists in Saturday's 12-11 double overtime victory over Johns Hopkins. One of his assist led to the game-winning goal by Kevin Winkoff in the closing minute of the second overtime to seal the victory. On the year, Malone currently leads the team in points with 47 and in assists with 23. This is his first weekly award honor this season.

The Nittany Lions return to action on Sunday, April 16 when they travel to face No. 15/16 Michigan. First face-off is set for 6 p.m.
