UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The fourth-ranked Penn State men's lacrosse team begins its 2023 Big Ten Tournament run against No. 14/15 Michigan on Thursday at 1 p.m. in the semifinal round. The game will be played at Homewood Field on the campus of Johns Hopkins.

SERIES HISTORY

  • Penn State currently leads the series 10-2 as this will be the 13th meeting between both teams.
  • The last time the Nittany Lions defeated Michigan came on April 16, 2022 when they won 11-9.

SCOUTING MICHIGAN

  • Michigan enters the match with a 7-6 overall record as they recently defeated Ohio State 14-10 on April 29 in the Big Ten Quarterfinals.
  • Leading the way on the offensive front for the Wolverines is Michael Boehm who leads the team in points with 56 off 34 goals and 22 assists.
  • In net stands Shane Carr who has played in 11 games and started in 10 this season. He currently tallies a save percentage of .489 and a GAA of 11.06.

REGULAR SEASON CHAMPS

  • For just the second time in program history, Penn State clinched the Big Ten Regular Season title following their 14-5 victory over Rutgers on April 21.
  • The last time the Nittany Lions clinched the regular season title came in 2019 when they also won the Big Ten tournament and advanced all the way to the NCAA final four.
  • Penn State had 10 goal scorers in the victory which was the third time Penn State had 10 or more goal scorers in a single game this season.
  • Jack Fracyon stopped 17 shots and allowed just five goals which is a career-low for the sophomore.

IN THE TOP 5

  • Following the victory over Rutgers, the Nittany Lions stayed the top five in both the USILA and Inside Lacrosse polls this week.
  • The Nittany Lions were fourth in the USILA poll and fifth in the Inside Lacrosse poll.

SCORE ONE FOR MAC!

  • Freshman Mac Hobbs scored his first collegiate goal on Friday, April 21 against Rutgers in the final regular season game.
  • Hobbs is just the second Nittany Lion freshman to score a goal for Penn State this season as Ryan O'Connor scored his first collegiate goal against Lafayette on Feb. 4.
