Nittany Lions Promote Radio to Assistant Coach

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- Head women's lacrosse coach Missy Doherty announced the promotion of Naomi Radio from volunteer assistant coach to assistant coach. Radio will join the staff full time after acting as the volunteer assistant, specifically working with the goalies, for the historic 2023 season.

"Naomi has already been a great addition to our program last season, and we are very excited she will be working with us full time," said Doherty. "She brings in so much experience and we can't wait for her to help lead our defensive unit and goalies."

During the 2023 campaign, Radio helped coach Ashley Bowan in her first season at Penn State as the goalkeeper coach. Bowan made 130 saves throughout 2023 season including 19 in the Nittany Lions' game against John Hopkins which ranks her in the top-five nationally in saves in a single-game. Bowan also produced a second half shutout against Ohio State in a 13-3 win. Radio was apart of the 2023 Nittay Lions staff that coached the team to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2018.

Radio came to Penn State from Juniata College where she served as the head women's lacrosse coach for six years. She served as the first-ever coach at Juniata and led the team to an 11-6 season in 2022. Before Juniata, Radio was an assistant coach at State College Area High School. She was also the Head Girl's Lacrosse coach at Chambersburg Senior High School. She previously was an assistant coach at Division II Shippensburg and then the head coach for three seasons.

Radio graduated from Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg, Md. Radio was a two-time Academic All-America First Team selection in lacrosse from 2004-05. She was selected as the NEC Student-Athlete of the Year in 2004, was a three-time member of the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic Honor Roll and was a two-time NEC women's lacrosse scholar-athlete.

The State College native was named All-Northeast Conference three times, including being named to first team twice and earned Player of the Year honors in 2004.
